Trifextra Writing Challenge - Its the End of the World As We Know It

The Higg's Boson was never supposed to be isolated. It was never supposed to exist apart from matter.

That's just not the way the world works. Not the way things were set up.

So, once isolated, the Higg's Boson pulled another boson from a nearby atom. And, then each of those bosons liberated another. And, on it went. A chain reaction, if you will.

It is still happening. Right now, as I write this.

The atoms from which the bosons are being pulled are fragmenting. They are also no longer anchored in space - nor in time.

This is still happening at only the atomic level. But, since it is speeding up at an exponential level, the tear in the space/time continuum should be visible to the naked eye some time tomorrow.

After that, it will grow at a tremendous rate, turning everything in its path into sub-atomic particles.

The world will end in three days.

I have prepared this post for the TrifectaWritingChallenge.com. This weekend our prompt was "The world will end in three days." See? Its just fiction. (That's what they told me to tell you, since there is no use panicking.)

  1. to think something so tiny could end the world. i'm half-expecting the world to end in three days now!

  2. Yea...this story is actually true, but we are all just supposed to keep calm and carry on. No use in panicking. No use in anything really... sigh...

Should show up on the news some time tomorrow. There will probably be photos of the tear.

    1. Yea, but there is a bright side to everything. For example, you only need to do enough laundry and buy enough groceries for a couple more days. So, that's cool. And, let's see...you don't need to pay the utility bills. Another "plus."

  4. then I wouldn't have to pay my bills...

    2. I accidentally replied to some of these as my son, Yeakokthen!

ANYWAY, the world will end in just about 24 hours...so, I would not pay anything, unless they are about to shut it off ;)

  6. Thanks for letting me know. I knew that was gonna happen. Damn arrogant scientists but what were the odds really?

  7. It really was just a matter of time, wasn't it? I guess we won't bother with a new challenge on Monday, but check back just in case we get a case of optimism, okay?

    1. On the other hand, the money will be no good after tomorrow night anyway. Try to eat all the groceries now. ;)

  11. Neat take - Timely and appropriate.

  12. Sometimes you do have to wonder, that we really don't need to prove the scientific theories we think are true. That's it's the knowing that starts that chain reaction. Clever take on the prompt.

  13. Well done, Libby! I love it. I coach speech and debate at the high school level, and that REM song was our theme song last year. The entire team did the song for one of the motel's staff where we stayed. It was hysterical, and will forever be remembered in the annals of our group. LoL
