The Gift

SASHA: I got a present for the landlady! I don't have to get her anything, but ... She's coming soon; I'm going to leave it on the front step and hide around the corner!

JULIET: My God, Sasha is such a kiss up! This place is a dump and the food sucks. The landlady should consider herself lucky to have us. Sasha should give me that instead.

EMILY (THE LANDLADY) PULLS UP - TALKING ON HER PHONE: Oh My GOD!! I know. I know, but I have to go now! The cats left another headless mouse on the steps! Sasha!! Juliet!!

I'm entering this little story into the Trifextra Writing Challenge. Check it out - its a lot of fun!

  1. This is perfect! Our neighbors have two cats who I think have adopted us. They are always leaving headless things on my doorstep. :P

  2. Cool! I mean, not cool - lol! I wonder what the cats are thinking. :). I was trying to get inside their cat minds.

  4. This is, as Martin Amis would say [see his novel, Money] -- "frigging BRILL!"
    Superb.

    1. Lol! Is it a good book? Should I get it? Btw, thank you. Are you 'in' this weekend? I am trying to finish ScriptFrenzy. I have 26 pages to do by midnight Monday(!). It's a movie script - a comedy. :)

  5. Libby, I just now submitted a beer-induced entry to the Trifecta thing.
It's such fun. I really love those challenges.
As for Martin Amis -- a co-worker of mine adores him as an author, I found Money humorous at times, but not something I would recommend, no. I still have faith in Amis though, and have at least three other of his novels on deck here.... he wrote a BRILLIANT essay-type book about the aftermath of the 9/11 tragedy called The Second Plane, and I admmire his intellect. My initial attraction to his work is based on his BEST-friendship with Christopher Hitchens, whom [rest in peace, Hitch] I adore.
    Wishing you a terrific weekend.

  6. Awesome. Now .... let's hear from the headless mice. What were they (or their presumably-ingested heads) thinking?

    1. Ok. Its dark in here! We've got to get out of this water... Its not water! It burns us!

Oh, God...I'm gonna be sick. I just really visualized this. Oh God.

  8. Oh, thank goodness my cats are worthless and don't bring me presents! I liked the dynamic between the goody-goody and the other cat. Of course, we humans don't know how to graciously accept a gift

  10. "Sasha should give me that instead." Ha! I find this behavior absolutely fascinating - it's adorable in a rather disgusting, creepy way. (I wrote something for another Trifecta prompt with a similar theme: http://wp.me/s280vI-crush)
