Writing Trifecta!!!
Today, I am participating in Trifexta Week 9...here's how it works...they give us 33 words of a (very) short story and then we complete it with exactly 33 MORE words! Then, you my loyal subjects/followers go to Trifecta and (please) vote for me! Or, actually vote for your favorite - I can take it. So, I am copying the original 33 words in bold, and then my 33 will be in italics, as follows:
“There’s nothing cute about it,” he said. The register of his voice indicated decision more so than discussion.
She disagreed heartily and privately, staring past his head and out the window behind him.
There, on the lawn, were the fifty flamingos that Bob's sister had paid a company to install on his fiftieth birthday.
His beautiful bias-cut lawn had been violated. Bob had been flocked.
Funny!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Nicole!
DeleteHahaha!!! Gotta love the pink flamingos and hey, turning 50 years old is better than the alternative, right? ;-)
ReplyDeleteHi Dana- Yep, I'm turning 50 in a couple months. :)
DeleteEh. Flock you Bob. Hehee!! I love it that his sister was the instigator, too.
ReplyDeleteIt HAD to be the sister. ;). Thanks for commenting!
Deleteahhh family . . . Love this!!!
ReplyDeleteFamily...can't live with em, can't shoot em and bury them in the yard...
DeleteNice entry! About the flamingos - I'm sure the neighbors won't notice ;)
ReplyDeleteIf I had 33 MORE words I could make Bob the president of the Homeowners Association and he could be in violation of his own rules-LOL!
DeleteHa ha! You guys and your Homeowners Associations! They are terrifying them and there is almost not a chance in anywhere that would make one happen on my street, trust me. I am never moving.
DeleteGreat entry, I love the visual. I also love that his sister has done this to him. Sisterlove is so freaking awesome!!! They know exactly how to pinch their brothers to get a reaction.
Wow, I've read all of the other submissions and yours is by far the best. But I don't know how to vote for it. See, I've described the situation in thirty three words!
ReplyDeleteThat's very nice of you! I am not sure how the voting works either because I am a first timer. But there is a count down clock on the Trifecta site and when it goes off we have 12 hours to vote...somehow. :)
DeleteI want 50 flamingoes! Nice story. :)
ReplyDeletebest,
MOV
You never know... You could get flocked when you least expect it!
DeleteNice flamingos and interesting writing website!
ReplyDeleteThanks! This is mostly a "book blog," but I thought the writing thing meshed well with the reading thing, so I am trying out this meme!
DeleteWhat a super cool idea. I'll have go over and check this out. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Happy to have discovered it.
ReplyDeleteKaren- yea, I just discovered this meme too. But, I am having a lot of fun with it. ;)
DeleteHis OLDER sister, I'll bet. The one who's happy he's caught up to her. She's mean.
ReplyDeleteOoh, I have a younger brother ... so I might have to copy this idea. Fortunately, I won't need it for years!
You're exactly right! It's his older sister!
DeleteNice! That's a lot of flamingos!! :-) When do we get to vote?!
ReplyDeleteHi Laura!! (Thanks for asking!) I think starts around 7:30 or so Eastern Time. And then we have 12 hours. :)
DeleteDoes no one appreciate the sanctity of a man's lawn?!?
ReplyDeleteSigh.
Great answer to the challenge!
Exactly. Bob is not bad, he is just misunderstood :) And, thanks for your kind words!
ReplyDeleteI sure wish I had thought doing this. Funny!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
Deleteoh! Bob must have done something naughty to his sister to earn a revenge like that. :-)) :-))
ReplyDeleteShe just thought he was a bit too into the lawn(!)
DeleteI like that we're getting all kinds of great prank ideas from this prompt! Will have to keep this idea in mind...
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine walking out to your car to go to work and...
DeleteFlaming flamingos - I like your style!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Deborah! I want to be a writer (like you!), so I am practicing. I am signed up for National Script Writing Month in April, and I think I have a really good concept...so...we will see what happens :)
DeleteYou got my vote this week for sure! I really liked this story! :D
ReplyDelete:D
Thanks! What makes that especially great is that you are last week's winner, so I am taking your kind words as a great compliment!
DeleteAha! They strike again! Cool!
ReplyDeleteYou never know where they will show up next...YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!!!
DeleteI loved the phrase "beautiful bias cut lawn." I could totally picture it.
ReplyDeleteThanks...have you noticed how some people mow their lawns so that the lawn mower marks leave a really perfect pattern? And, other people accidentally leave big uncut gaps between rows, and then run out of gas before they are done, but figure that it is 'good enough,' so they go inside and work on their blogs?
DeleteFlamingoes are the perfect complement to a bias cut lawn! Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteBig, pink accent pieces!
DeleteThanks so much for linking up to Trifextra. Remember, this weekend’s entries are being judged by the Trifecta community, so I hope you were able to cast your votes. Winners will be announced with the Monday post. Hope to see you back then.
ReplyDeleteWe were supposed to vote?!?! Just kidding :)
DeleteHa! A well-deserved place in the winner's circle. Congrats.
ReplyDeleteKelly- thanks. :). Nice of you to drop back by!
DeleteI turned the same this year and I had a huge ass sign welcoming me to AARP. Love the last line. My husband cross cuts as well. Men and their lawns ;-) Sorry it took so long for me to visit.
ReplyDeleteI hate AARP! American Association of Retired People - who retires when they're 50!?!?
DeleteThe lawn thing IS hysterical! Some men are so into it :)
This is hilarious!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tracie!!!!
DeleteThis is like Telephone kind of, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI am seriously laughing out loud!! Great finish!!
